DARLINGTON - Darlington junior Grady Rielly turned in a dominating performance in the hurdles during the Darlington Invitational en route to being named the most outstanding male athlete of the nine-team meet.
Rielly won the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.35 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 42.22. No team scores were kept for the invitational.
The Redbirds swept the top three spots in the 200. Senior Trevor Johnson won (24.34), senior Jared Meister took second (24.54), and sophomore Blake Whalen was third (24.78).
Darlington senior Connor Hackett won the 1,600 (4 minutes, 48.37 seconds), and Paul King won the 3,200 (10:50.45).
Johnson and Meister teamed with Kameron Blosch and Curtis Blosch to win the 800 relay (1:35.78). Curtis Blosch also won the pole vault (10 feet, 6 inches). Darlington's Mitchell Wagner won the triple jump (40-5), and Connor McGowan won the discus (133-0).
Darlington's Tucker Lange took second in the 800 (2:13.71), and the Redbirds got three second-place finishes from Wagner - the 110 hurdles (16.41), the 300 hurdles (45.59) and the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches).
The Redbirds finished second in both the 400 relay (46.82) and the 3,200 relay (8:40.22).
Black Hawk's Mitchell Quinn finished second in the 400 (57.05).
In the girls meet, Pecatonica-Argyle senior Josie Penniston won both the 200 (27.45) and the 400 (1:01.80). Penniston edged Darlington sophomore Kathleen Mathias by .03 of a second in the 200. Mathias took second in the race (27.48).
The Redbirds dominated the long-distance events. Darlington junior Erin Wolf won the 3,200 (13:33.96) and junior Reghan Komprood took first in the 1,600 (6:01.25). Darlington senior Paige Schilling finished second in the 800 2:39.72).
Darlington junior Hunter Weber won the pole vault (8-6).
Wolf and Schilling teamed with senior Sadie Fitzsimons and junior Kennedy Rankin to win the 1,600 relay (4:26.33). The Redbirds' 3,200 relay team of Emma Crist, Ilse Mendez, Schilling and Wolf won in 10:44.89.
Black Hawk junior Haley Gertsch finished second in the 100 (13.49) and third in the 400 (1:05.84). Pecatonica-Argyle's Taetum Pagel took second in the high jump (4-8).
The Redbirds took second in the 400 relay (54.88) and in the 800 relay (1:57.17).
