Redbirds cruise to win; B-A struggles

PLATTEVILLE - Darlington junior quarterback Alex Erickson piled up 249 total yards and had three touchdowns as the Redbirds stormed past Platteville 32-13 in the football season opener.

Darlington junior Tucker Wiegel bolted for a 76-yard TD run to put the Redbirds on the board 11 minutes, 15 seconds into the first quarter.

Erickson rushed for 177 yards on 22 carries and completed 4 of 7 passes for 72 yards.

Darlington racked up 459 total yards, including 387 rushing yards. Redbirds senior running back Dan Hammer capped the scoring with a 1-yard TD run.

Edgerton 39, Belleville-Albany 7

EDGERTON - The Barry Lengfeld coaching era in Belleville-Albany got off to a tough start as the Wildcats lost to Edgerton.

Edgerton scored 23 first-quarter points and the Wildcats never recovered. The Wildcats' defense gave up 435 total yards.

Belleville-Albany's Collin Adams completed 5 of 11 passes for 49 yards. Nick Davis rushed for 34 yards on 14 carries and Donovan Woods caught two passes for 21 yards for the Wildcats.
