KENOSHA — UW-Parkside hosted the Wisconsin Wrestling Showcase on Saturday, Nov. 11, where Monroe graduate Brady Schuh helped his team defeat McKendree University 23-10.
This year marked the third for The Wisconsin Wrestling Showcase. The last two years, it has been located at Division I UW-Madison and Division III UW-La Crosse. Host UW-Parkside, ranked No. 9 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Oct. 30 poll, used its “home-field” advantage to upset McKendree, ranked No. 5 in the same Division III poll. The Rangers and Bearcats have five ranked individuals each.
Schuh, a 2022 Monroe graduate, faced one of McKendree’s ranked individuals in his 165-pound match — Cory Peterson. Peterson, ranked No. 5, is a two-time NCAA Division II All-American and was the Super Regional 4 champion in 2020-21. Schuh, who just cracked Parkside’s starting lineup, rose to the occasion.
“I saw it as nothing to lose and all to gain,” Schuh said. “At Parkside, we are taught to fight and give max effort. I saw this as an opportunity.”
Schuh and Peterson were tied at the end of three periods with five points each. In overtime, Schuh recorded a takedown for the 8-5 sudden victory.
“I think Brady Schuh stole the show with his big upset victory,” UW-Parkside head coach Nick Becker said in a press release. “He’s a workhorse and this win is a great confidence booster for him.”
With the win, UW-Parkside improves to 2-0 in duals. The Rangers are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 18 for the Findlay Open in Ohio.
