PeeWee A pulls off a weekend sweep, improves to 25-2-1

MONROE - The Avalanche PeeWee A team played Reedsburg-Wisconsin Dells in Monroe Saturday. The Avalanche controlled the game from the beginning winning 5-1. On Sunday, the Avalanche beat Verona 3-2. With a weekend sweep of Reedsburg-Wisconsin Dells and Verona, the Avalanche PeeWee A improved its record to 25-2-1.

Anika Einbeck scored the first of three goals Saturday against Reedsburg-Wisconsin Dells, earning a hat trick. Getting assists for the Avalanche were Tessa Janecke with two and Hayden Roth. In the third period, Roth lit the lamp with an assist from Einbeck. Payton Stauffacher fired in a goal from the blue line with 44 seconds left in the third on an assist from Cade Janecke to finish off the scoring. Goalie Heath Bear recorded 20 saves.

On Sunday, the Avalanche traveled to Verona hoping to avenge a tie earlier in the season. Verona came out strong and scored quickly in the first period. With 5 minutes left in the first period, Tessa Janecke found the back of the net with an assist from Einbeck. In the second period, Cade Janecke took the puck coast-to-coast for the second Avalanche goal of the game.

In the third period, the Wildcats came back to tie the game 2-2. With 6 minutes left in the third period, Alyssa Knauf scored the game-winner on assists from Roth and Tessa Janecke. Bear had 35 saves.



Avalanche PeeWee B

On Saturday, the Monroe PeeWee B team hosted Verona B in a rematch of the Avalanche's first game of the year. The Monroe Avalanche Pee Wee B team skated to a 4-2 win in the rematch.

From the opening rush into the Verona zone, Monroe demonstrated a grasp of effective scoring concepts. It would take more than 6 minutes of persistence, though, for Luke Kuberski to score a goal on assists by both linemates Jared Dillon and Rob Schroeder to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead. Ninety seconds later, the game would be tied when a Verona shot deflected off a Monroe stick and spiked under the crossbar. Less than 30 seconds after the tying goal, Jared Dillon buried a one-timer from a Kuberski centering pass.

The Avalanche would hold Verona scoreless in the second period while Luke Kuberski split the defense for a goal, widening the Monroe lead to two goals. Ruger Hansen would cap the victory with an empty-net goal 19 seconds before the final buzzer. Goaltender Aiden Runkle recorded 20 saves. The 4-2 Avalanche win was a repeat of their first meeting with the Wildcats.

On Sunday, Monroe hosted Middleton C and skated to a 5-2 win. Luke Kuberski scored a goal to break a tie 6 minutes into the first period. Hansen would add a second Monroe goal 7 minutes later with assists going to Dillon and Kuberski.

In the second period, Rob Schroeder added a third goal with Kuberski notching a second assist. Third period goals from Kuberski and Rebekah Rath with assists from Hansen and Bryce Montgomery would create a cushion that Middleton's final goal couldn't match. Runkle recorded 12 saves.



Bantam

On Saturday, the Avalanche Bantam team defeated Madison Polar Caps B 11-2 at SLICE.

Colton O'Connor led the attack with one goal and four assists. Joe Wyss added two goals and had three assists. Charlie Harris had one goal and three assists. Also scoring goals were Payton Stauffacher (two), Cade Janecke (two), Connor Nafzger, Riley Jones and Travis Edmunds. Goalie Jayden Johnson had 30 saves.

On Sunday, the Avalanche Bantam team played Verona B at SLICE and won 4-2. Verona jumped out to an early lead. In the second period, O'Connor scored a goal on an assist by Stauffacher to tie the game at 1. The score would remain tied headed into the third period. Monroe struck quickly as Travis Edmunds scored a goal on assists by Jared Cline and Wyss. Verona immediately answered to tie the game at 2. With under 4 minutes left, Jones knocked the puck free and tipped it to a cutting Edmunds to score and put Monroe ahead. In the final minute, Stauffacher redirected a shot by Cline past the Verona goalie to seal the win. Johnson had 20 saves.
