SOUTH WAYNE - A young Juda Panthers squad picked up a big road win Thursday night, 41-38, against Black Hawk in overtime thanks in part to solid defense and Joey Jordan's 19 points.

"This just gives our guys a ton of confidence. Being as youthful as we are this is a big step towards learning how to win," Juda head coach Kyle Krueger said.

The Panthers had a couple of goals in the game, keep control of the ball, limit Black Hawk's sharpshooter, T.J. Adams, and get on the board quickly.

"We took care of the ball and gave ourselves more of an opportunity to score and we didn't give them as many easy opportunities," Krueger said.

Juda jumped out to a 9-2 lead after the first quarter, and Adams - averaging just under 20 points per game - scored 11 total, all of which came in the fourth quarter and overtime.

"Brandon Bauman did an absolute outstanding job the whole game on Adams. Brandon took it as a challenge and he stepped up," Krueger said. "We weren't going to let (Adams) beat us. We had to make somebody else beat us. We didn't know if it would work or not, but it did. The team bought in to it."

When the Warriors needed a second shooter senior Cody Foster stepped to the plate. Foster scored 14 points in the game, including 13 of the Warriors 16 points in the first half and three 3-pointers.

"We know Cody can do that (shoot well). It wasn't really falling for anybody else tonight, but Cody hit a few big shots that kept us in the game," Black Hawk head coach Kyle Bille said. "We've got to find that consistent third scorer. Whoever that is needs to step up."

The game was tied at 16-16 at halftime and 22-22 after the third quarter.

"We can't dig ourselves a hole. It was just a matter of finding the open guys. They were open, we just weren't getting it to them," Bille said.

Black Hawk got its first big shot from Adams with 47 seconds left in the fourth to take a 31-30 lead. The Warriors hadn't scored over the previous 3 minutes, 31 seconds. Juda set up a play for freshman Cody Suiter, who drove into the lane and hit a jumper to re-take the lead.

Foster went 1-for-2 in the closing seconds to tie the score once again at 32-32.

In overtime, Juda got hot. Dylan Bauman stole the ball at midcourt and hit Brandon Bauman in transition for a lay up. Moments later, Jordan got the hoop and the foul to put the Panthers up five. The lead increased to as much as seven at 41-34 with 46.2 seconds left. Black Hawk's final run of free throws and a layup weren't enough.

"It just came down to making plays at the end and we just didn't make enough plays. We just needed one more big play to get us over the hump in overtime but we just ran out of time," Bille said.

Black Hawk (2-3, 0-2 Six Rivers East) waits until Dec. 15 to take on Highland and will not play another conference game until a Jan. 7 meeting at home against Pecatonica. Juda (2-3, 1-1) hosts Barneveld Dec. 18.
