OREGON - Carson Root will bounce back. The rest of the Cheesemakers were bouncing on the balls of their feet during a 6-1 Badger Conference tennis victory Thursday against Oregon.
Root lost his No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-4, to Jake Butterfield, while the rest of the crew lost only 16 games in the other 12 combined sets.
"Carson could never get on track today," Monroe coach Jim Bartholf said. "He couldn't execute his shots like he normally does. He will bounce back."
Matt Le routed Jon Dundore 6-0, 6-1, in No. 2 play. Artem Bralgin defeated Tony Ceithamer, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3, and Dan Becker bested John Thompson, 6-3, 6-1, in No. 4 play.
Monroe's top doubles duo of seniors Matt Turek and Levi Jannsens cruised to a 6-1, 6-1, win over Taylor Tachon and Joe Sanford. Mark Hoesly and Jim Kundert enjoyed similar success against Dan Smeaton and Norm Schwenn, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 2 doubles, and Nick Hendrickson and Trevor Arn defeated Kyle Alvis and Brian Jacobs, 6-2, 6-3, in No. 3 action.
