MONONA - With the champion second season of swimming approaching, cutting time takes center stage.

Monroe lost a dual meet to Monona Grove 115-55 Tuesday night.

"As a whole, the girls just didn't have the spark they usually bring to the pool," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "We need to get back to working on technique and fine-tuning the little parts which really are the big parts when it comes to out-touching or gaining a hundredth of a second in a race."

Monroe junior Kendell Niffenegger finished second in the 200-meter freestyle with a personal best time of 2 minutes, 13.67 seconds.

The Cheesemakers' 200-medley relay team of Randi Robertson, Leanna Schwartzlow, Niffenegger and Sara Heitkamp took second with a time of 2:05.04.

Niffenegger again teamed up with Robertson, Heitkamp and Schwartzlow to finish second in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:11.92.

Schwartzlow finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:25.74) and swam to a PR in the 500 freestyle (5:52.40).

Robertson took second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.03.

Moser said Kylee Ritschard keeps taking time off her 200 individual medley, and Tuesday was no different with a time of 2:32.25.

Senior Quinn Radke swam a personal best in her 100 freestyle at 1:12.75.
