PLATTEVILLE - The Monroe girls track team turned in a championship performance in two events at the Pioneer Invitational Tuesday at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

The Cheesemakers' 800-meter relay team of senior MacKenzie Hesgard, junior Isabel Bazley, junior Abby Oudinot and sophomore Josie Eberle won the relay with a time of 1 minute, 57.08 seconds. Monroe sophomore Jordan Hirsbrunner won the high jump clearing 5-feet and took fourth place in the 400 (1:05.95).

"They performed exceptionally well," Monroe coach Matt Davis said of the Cheesemakers. "They exceeded our expectations tonight."

The meet wasn't scored, but if it was, the Cheesemakers would have racked up 72 points.

"We probably would have been in the top three," Davis said. "They definitely set a pretty high bar."

Monroe sophomore Casey Riley took second place in the 55 hurdles (9.97).

Eberle added a third-place finish in the 55 dash (7.93) and Oudinot took fourth (7.94). The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay team of Bazley, sophomore Ciara Kaderly, freshman Rachel Meier and sophomore Stephanie Sanft took third place (11:11.06).

In the boys' meet, Monroe senior Cody Faust won the high jump (5-10) and the 800 (2:11) and helped the 800 relay team finish third.

"Cody had a really nice meet," Monroe boys track coach Curt Miller said. "He was a little disappointed in his 800 time. I think he will be a contender. We all have high hopes and expectations for Cody. I think his best is yet to come."

Fellow senior Mitch Keith, coming back from injury, cleared 10-0 to win the pole vault.

"It was good for him to come back from surgery to win the pole vault," Miller said. "He only had one or two days of practice. He wasn't sure if he was going to be out for track this year."

Monroe junior Tyler Sobacki finished second in the 55 hurdles (8.74) and junior Thang Lu took second in the 400. Faust teamed with Cody Wolf, Blain Harpstrite and Brayden Zettle to take third in the 800 relay (1:41.30).

Miller has been impressed by Lu in the first two meets.

"He's one of our top dogs right now," he said of Lu. "He and Cody Faust are really building confidence."
