MONROE - Brooke Adams has been swinging a hot bat, and a chilly, gloomy day at Twining Park didn't cool it off.

The senior went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI to lead the Monroe High School softball team to a 15-5 five-inning win over Madison Edgewood on Thursday at Twining Park. Adams has nine hits in her past four games.

"She's having a very good year," Monroe coach Dale Buvid said. "Last year she hit .260, and this year she's hitting .440. She has done a great job."

The Cheesemakers (11-5 overall, 5-2 Badger South) had a four-run first inning to jump out to an early lead.

Monroe pounded out 12 hits and had five extras-base hits.

The Cheesemakers broke the game open with a six-run third. Monroe senior Kaya Teasdale had a key two-run double in the inning.

Monroe senior Hannah Vetterli went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Junior teammate Carly Upmann went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Edgewood was plagued by six errors.

"Their No. 1 pitcher was injured so we faced their No. 2 pitcher," Buvid said. "We handled her. We are happy with the offense. We had six or seven hard struck balls."

The Crusaders scored five runs off Monroe senior pitcher Natalie Dillon in the fourth, which also featured a diving catch by Monroe junior Lexi Hilliard.

"We didn't have a good half inning in the fourth with an error and a couple of walks," said Buvid, who was impressed by Hilliard's diving catch.

"It's one of the best plays I have seen from one of our outfielders this year," he said.

Monroe sophomore Alysha Witt had a two-run double in the fifth to end the game.

Dillon pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up five runs, but just two earned runs, on seven hits. She struck out five and walked four.

"Natalie has been a little bit off," Buvid said. "It was a few more walks than normal, and she left a few more pitches in bad spots. We haven't practiced in so long. She will work on it and get it fixed."
