MONROE - Marissa Berg continues raising the bar for the Monroe Area Swim Team.

Berg, 14, of Monticello, set three meet records on her way to winning three individual events, including the 50-meter freestyle, 50 breaststroke and 100 freestyle at the 57th annual Dr. Stiles Invitational Saturday at Recreation Park.

Berg won the girls 13- to 14-year-old 50 freestyle in 28.31 seconds, which was about a second faster than the record she set last year. She finished first in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 38.88 seconds, which was more than a second faster than Leanna Schwartzlow's previous record she set in 2007. Berg also took first in the 100 freestyle (1:03.62), breaking another record she set last year (1:05.18).

"It just means I have worked hard," Berg said. "I just wanted to improve my times. There are just so many people. I just have to keep working hard even though the meets are not as big."

Platteville won team title (1,520.5), well ahead of Lake Geneva (1,324.5). Sugar River finished third (1,125) and Monroe was fourth (848.5). There were 10 total meet records set this year.
