Eichelkraut officially steps away from NGM
NEW GLARUS — Longtime New Glarus-Monticello football coach Jeff Eichelkraut officially resigned from his position, and the school has hired assistant coach DJ Schuett as his replacement.
Eichelkraut began at the school in 1993 as an assistant, just one year after graduating himself. He was the program’s offensive line coach until 1998, and in 1999 he took over as head coach, serving until 2011 when he stepped down to handle the duties of high school principal. In 2016, Eichelkraut returned to the sidelines as head coach.
He had an all-time record of 92-87, led the Glarner Knights to six conference titles, 12 postseason berths and three playoff wins. In his final season in the fall of 2021, NGM finished 2-7, but scored a 1-point upset at 10th-ranked Prairie du Chien in Week 4.
Schuett has 30 years of youth coaching experience. He joined the NGM football program as an assistant coach in 2017 and has served as offensive line and junior varsity head coach.
