BELMONT — Pecatonica scored a double-header sweep of Belmont April 30, 7-1 and 11-1.

“It was a good bounce back doubleheader win,” Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. “Our pitchers consistently threw strikes; (our) defense was solid and we had quality at-bats.”

In the opener, the Vikings plated runs in the first and fourth innings, then hung up a 3-spot in the fifth. Two innings later, Pecatonica added a pair of insurance runs.

Kegun Brunker was 3x4 with a walk and two runs. Bryce Johnsrud was 2x4 with a run and two RBIs and Coy Ruegsegger finished 2x5. Hunter Enloe walked twice, Tyler McKeon scored twice, and Dakota Doescher had two RBIs. Brunker and Doescher each belted doubles.

Doescher pitched three innings for Pecatonica, allowing one unearned run in the bottom of the first. He struck out four and walked two. Ruegsegger pitched the final four innings, scattering three hits and a walk and capping the night with four innings.

In the second game, Ruegsegger and Enloe each had two hits and two runs. Enloe added 3 RBIs to Johnsrud’s two RBIs. Elijah Knutson also had two hits for Pecatonica.

Knutson nearly completed the game on the mound, tossing 4.2 innings with one run on three walks and two hits. McKeon pitched the final out of the game, throwing three straight pitches past Belmont’s Riley Christensen.

Belmont 13, Darlington 3

BELMONT — Carter Lancaster had two doubles and two RBIs, but the Redbirds struggled to find offense in a nonconference loss to the Braves April 29.

Freshman Breylin Goebel allowed 11 hits and 11 runs in 2.1 innings of work, striking out just one, hitting a batter and walking five. Hunter Hardyman tossed the final 1.2 innings of work for Darlington, allowing another two runs on three hits.

Belmont took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but the Redbirds scratched three across the board in the top of the second. The Braves countered with an 8-run inning to go ahead 9-3. Belmont scored two more runs in both the third and the fourth to set up the mercy rule victory.

Oregon 10, Argyle 0

OREGON — The Orioles played up a couple of divisions for an April 30 nonconference game and couldn’t overcome the Panthers’ offense.

Oregon scored twice in the bottom of the first on Argyle starting pitcher Clay Ritschard. The biggest damage came in the third inning when five runners crossed the plate, all charged to Ritschard. Oregon added three more runs in the fourth against reliever Max Godfrey.

At the plate, Thatcher Ganshert got he first hit of the game for the Orioles, with teammate Brady Penniston smacking a pair of singles.
