BLANCHARDVILLE — Senior Chloe Schraepfer had a night to remember, as she scored her 1,000th career point on senior night in a 69-28 victory over Juda on Thursday, Feb. 2.

The last time Pecatonica girls basketball had a 1,000-point scorer was Kimee Chandler in 2010. Chandler then went on to play for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

“It was a great night,” Pecatonica head coach Linda Hendrickson said. “It truly is special to see Chloe reach that goal. She’s worked hard for it. It doesn’t happen very often. It’s a testimony to her working hard. I’m glad she can celebrate it. It’s even more special when she can celebrate it at home.”

Schraepfer, who averages 17.6 ppg, needed just 12 points to reach the threshold. She started the game by scoring the first four points for the Vikings. Schraepfer grabbed the ball off the tip and powered her way to the basket. She then received an assist from fellow senior Kaisen Kolb, who also got the start. For a 6-0 lead, Schraepfer dished it to Bri Peterson.

Juda responded, as Rianna Sullivan put the Panthers on the board. Jackie Nusbaum then went to the line where she swished both of her free throws.

Anna Tisch drained her first three, followed by another basket from Peterson for the Vikings to pull away 11-4. After an offensive put-back by Lavinia Rufer, Kolb scored her only points of the game.

Pecatonica doubled up 16-8 Juda six minutes into the game, as Diana Hendrickson grabbed her own rebound and put it back in for two. Although Rufer scored for the Panthers, back-to-back baskets from Peterson and Hendrickson put the Vikings up by 10 with nine minutes left in the half.

Schraepfer went on another run, beginning with a 2-point basket. She followed it up with a 2-for-2 trip to the free-throw line. Brooklynn Johnsrud and Diana Hendrickson connected for the next two points, to which Schraepfer added on.

With a 3-pointer, Schraepfer reached the milestone and put the Vikings up by 20 with six minutes to go in the half. The gym erupted in celebration, as the student section waved posters.

“It’s good to have them here,” Schraepfer said of the support. “They usually don’t come out to much, so it was nice for them to be here.”

Nusbaum single-handedly kept Juda within 20, responding to each Pecatonica score. She grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back for two. She was fouled in the process and made the subsequent and-one at the free-throw line. After a Schraepfer steal for two, Nusbaum scored yet again.

The Panthers’ defense came up clutch in the final seconds of the half, as Briliey Swedlund deflected a pass. On the ensuing side-out play for the Vikings, Loretta Tisch was forced to put up a contested shot that fell short.

Pecatonica took a 40-21 lead into the locker room.

Anna Tisch came in the second half ready to roll, scoring seven of the Vikings first 10 points. Paired with threes from Schraepfer, Pecatonica jumped ahead by 30. Loretta Tisch then grabbed a steal and took it down the court for two points for a 55-23 lead with 10 minutes left, thus enforcing a running clock.

Marta Escalero drew Kolb’s fourth foul and went to the line, where she made one free throw. Anna Tisch responded with a 3-point play, though, completed at the charity stripe.

Off the bench, Katie Brooks grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back for two points, sending the Panthers into a frenzy.

“We’ve really grown since the start of the year, coming together as a family,” Juda head coach Austin Pax said. “We’ve started to celebrate the little things as a team, which is good to see.”

Similarly, Loretta Tisch drained a pair of 3-pointers, followed by a basket from beyond the arc by freshman Mazie Theorin.

“All year, Loretta has had to fill big shoes for us on the varsity. She’s usually our sixth person off the bench,” Linda Hendrickson said. “Mazie is huge. For her to get some quality minutes and get that shot off — there’s nothing more special than that. When they do that, and you can see the smile on their face, it’s all worth it. That’s why you coach. That’s why the kids play. It’s to make those memories that she’ll remember for a lifetime.”

Schraepfer finished with 24 points, sinking four 3-pointers with a pair of free throws. Anna and Loretta Tisch drained a pair of threes each in their 14- and eight-point totals, respectively. Peterson also reached double figures, scoring all 10 of her points in the first half.

Rufer led Juda with eight points, all coming in the first half. Nusbaum followed with seven points, three of which came at the charity stripe. Sullivan tallied six points, while Ciarrah Davis chipped in four points.
