POTOSI — An unsuccessful 2-point conversion pass was the difference in a rematch of the Six Rivers Conference championship game between 3-seed Potosi-Cassville and 6-seed Black-Hawk Warren in a WIAA Division 7 Level 1 game on Oct. 25.
Both teams scored in the first three minutes of the contest, but Chieftain kicker Aaron Edge was able to make the extra point for the 7-6 final score.
Potosi-Cassville (10-0, 7-0) was able to limit Black Hawk-Warren (7-3, 6-1), one of the top running teams in the state, to just 140 rushing yards. Owen Seffrood, who has the 12th-most rushing yards of all running backs in the state regardless of the division, had 92 yards on 22 carries with the lone touchdown.
BELLEVILLE 27, CAMBRIDGE 0
CAMBRIDGE — The Wildcats handed the Bluejays their first loss of the season in a WIAA Division 6 Level 1 game on Oct. 25. Belleville (5-6, 4-3 SWAL), an 8-seed, upset top-seeded Cambridge (9-1, 7-0 Eastern Suburban) by scoring in each quarter.
Logan Derke had 37 carries for 209 rushing yards with three of the team’s four touchdowns. After missing the Week 9 contest, Brennan Keyes returned at QB, going 5-for-8 passing for 68 passing yards and 15 carries for 46 rushing yards with a touchdown. Despite 116 passing yards for Cambridge, the Wildcat defense forced two fumbles with one interception.
With the win, Belleville advances to a Level 2 game against 5-seed Marshall (5-5, 4-3 Eastern Suburban).
MAS 46, NEW GLARUS 35
GREENFIELD — The Knights’ upset bid fell just short in a WIAA Division 5 Level 1 playoff game against the Novas on Oct. 25. Sixth-seed New Glarus (6-4, 4-3 SWC) led 3-seed Milwaukee Academy of Science (10-1, 7-0 Midwest Classic-Large) 28-20 at halftime before giving up three touchdowns in the third quarter.
Matt Roth finished 22-for-39 passing with 268 yards and one touchdown. Even though he was held to -1 yards rushing on five carries, he also had one rushing touchdown. Milo Johnson had 106 of the team’s 204 rushing yards, while Charlie Sarbacker (13-58) had the other rushing touchdown. In the air, Andrew Sarbacker caught eight passes for 128 yards and one TD. The defense forced one fumble and intercepted one pass.
