BRODHEAD — Brodhead will host their third straight regional final following a 4-1 win over Columbus in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal May 21. 

Cardinal ace Ava Risum carried a no-hitter through six innings before giving up a solo shot to Mariyah Nachriner. Risum finished strong, giving up just the one run on two hits. She struck out 15 and walked one.

Sophia Leitzen also homered, going 1-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI. Leah Rear was 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Keegan Steinke reached base twice via walk.


BELMONT —  Bri Peterson was the only batter standing in the way of a no-hitter for the Braves’ pitching staff in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal game May 22. 

Her double was the only hit of the game, and she was the only batter to reach twice, also drawing a walk. In the circle, Peterson gave up just one earned run on seven hits as the defense committed four errors. She struck out one and didn’t issue a walk.
