Darlington Uses Big Inning To Top Monticello-Albany 15-7
The Darlington Redbirds used a 12-run fifth inning to race past the Monticello-Albany Space Stallions, 15-7 in non-conference baseball on April 22 at Monticello. Sophomore first baseman Calum Crist went 3x5 with a run scored and three RBIs. Senior Talan Crist also drove in three runs as the Redbirds scored a season-high 15 runs. Sophomore Dante Glendenning pitched the first three innings giving up six runs and Calum Crist pitched the last three innings giving up one run. Sophomore Ty Durtschi led Monticello-Albany by going 2x4 with an RBI. Freshman Brodyn Bakken and junior Tyler Patchen each drove in a run for the Space Stallions. Darlington improved to 3-7 with the win. Monticello-Albany dropped to 1-9 with the loss. The Space Stallions faced another SWAL Conference team, Iowa-Grant, on April 23 at Livingston. Darlington traveled to Lancaster for a non-conference game on Apr. 24.
Cheesemakers Commit Nine Errors in Loss To Lodi
Nine errors hurt the Monroe Cheesemakers in a 7-3 loss to the Lodi Blue Devils in non-conference baseball at Lodi on April 22. Starting pitcher Marcus Ott allowed just one earned run but the Blue Devils took advantage of having 15 baserunners. Junior Logan Meier had a triple, a double, and drove in a run for the Cheese. Senior Cole Meighan got the only other hit for Monroe. Meier, Meighan, and Owen Hicks scored runs for the Cheesemakers. With the loss, Monroe is 4-2 overall. The Cheesemakers played another non-conference game on April 25 at Portage.
Pecatonica Vikings splits games with Belmont, Potosi-Cassville
The Pecatonica Vikings fell behind early, 3-0 and never recovered in a 5-4 loss to the Belmont Braves in Six Rivers Conference baseball at Blanchardville on April 21. Over the first four innings, the Vikings went 0 for 12 with only a walk by Marty Anderson in the fourth inning. The Vikings came alive in the 6th scoring four runs. Senior Levi Krebs drove in a run with a double and scored a run for Pec. The Vikings fell to 3-2 in the Six Rivers conference, and 5-3 overall with the loss.
The Vikings traveled to Potosi-Cassville for a Six Rivers game on April 22 and came home with a 4-1 victory. Potosi-Cassville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, which held until the top of the fourth when the Vikings plated a pair. Pecatonica added two more runs in the sixth inning for insurance. Drew Hendrickson pitched all seven innings for Pec, striking out five and walking none. He allowed just three hits. Austin Enloe was 2x3 at the plate.
Seven Run 4th Inning Sends Brodhead-Juda Cardinals To Win
A seven run fourth inning was all the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals needed to come away with a 7-6 win over Big Foot in Rock Valley Conference Rock Division baseball on April 22. The Cardinals were down, 4-0 when they erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning. Senior catcher Gabe Bockhop came up big for the Cardinals by going 1x3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Shortstop Braylon Strehlow got a hit, a run, and an RBI for the Cardinals. Brooks Malkow got the win, pitching in relief with two innings of work and allowed two runs. Sam Searls picked up the save by pitching two innings and struck out three batters without a walk. The win was the first in conference play for the Cardinals in the RVC-Rock Division. They are now 1-0. Overall, the Cardinals are 6-3. Brodhead-Juda played a conference game at Big Foot on April 24.
Argyle-Black Hawk Loses Two Games in Six Rivers Conference Action
The Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles were shutout in both of their Six Rivers conference games early this past week. In both games, they were victims of three-hit shutouts. On Mon. April 21, the Highland Cardinals blanked the Orioles 10-0 in a game shortened to six innings on the 10-run rule. The Orioles were held hitless over the first three innings before Ike Waage, Jackson Berget, and Weston Ganshert got base hits. Waage pitched the first three innings and struck out four and issued one walk.
On Tue. April 22, the Barneveld Golden Eagles blanked Argyle-Black Hawk 13-0. The game was called in the fifth inning on the 10-run rule. Berget, Ganshert, and Trent Bidlingmair got the three base hits, all singles, for Argyle-Black Hawk. The Orioles struck out 12 times against three Barneveld pitchers. With the two losses, the Orioles dropped to 0-7 in the Six Rivers conference, and 0-9 overall. On Thur. April 24, Argyle-Black Hawk hosted River Ridge, and on Fri. April 25, they hosted Shullsburg-Benton in Six Rivers conference games.
Timberwolves Top Space Stallions 8-5
The Monticello-Albany Space Stallions out-hit the River Ridge Timberwolves 7-6, but River Ridge built up a 6-1 lead and never trailed in an 8-5 win in Six Rivers conference baseball April 21 at Monticello. Sophomore Tyler Constantini got three hits, including a double, and knocked in three runs to lead the Space Stallions. Senior Cody Pryce also had an RBI for Monticello-Albany. Junior Tyler Patchen allowed just three earned runs but took the loss, pitching five innings. The Space Stallions dropped to 1-6 in the Six Rivers conference with the loss, and 1-8 overall. Monticello-Albany hosted Darlington in a non-conference game on April 22.
Wisconsin Heights Gets Extra Inning Victory Over New Glarus
The Wisconsin Heights Vangards pushed across two runs in the top of the 10th inning to get a 3-2 win over the New Glarus Glarner Knights in Capitol South conference baseball at New Glarus on April 22. With the score tied 1-1, the game went into extra innings. The Vanguards scored two runs in the 10th while the Glarner Knights scored one run to fall short. Senior Patrick Alt started the game for New Glarus and got a no-decision giving up one run on two hits and had four strikeouts and three walks. Brock Roth took the loss in relief as he pitched four innings and gave up two runs on three hits. Roth walked one and struck out three. New Glarus sits at 1-2 in the Capitol South Conference, 5-3 overall. The Glarner Knights traveled to Wisconsin Heights on April 24, and played at Edgerton on April 25.
Belleville Loses To Mineral Point, Wins Over Marshall
The Belleville Wildcats went 1-1 in baseball April 21 and April 22 with a non-conference loss to Mineral Point and a Capitol South conference win over Marshall.
On April 21, the Mineral Point Points scored all of their runs in the third and fourth innings. The Pointers’ 5-0 lead stood up as the Wildcats could only counter with two runs in the fifth inning. Belleville starting pitcher Austin Mckinley pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits. Three of the runs were unearned. Senior Trei Udelhoven pitched the final 2 and 2/3 innings and got a strikeout. Senior first baseman James Markhardt collected three hits and one RBI for the Wildcats.
In the game on April 22, Belleville rolled past Marshall, 12-3 in a Capitol South conference game. Centerfielder Randy Raven got a base hit, drove in three runs, and scored a run. Markhardt got two RBIs on two base hits to go along with a run scored. Senior Niles Monroe pitched a complete game four-hitter. Monroe fanned 12 and walked just one.
With the win and the loss, the Wildcats are 3-7 overall, but in Capitol South conference play, they are 2-1. The Wildcats play at Albany against Monticello-Albany in a non-conference game on April 28.
