Raiders rolling as postseason nears

BELLEVILLE — The Sugar River Raiders walloped Madison Country Day/Abundant Life/St. Ambrose 9-0 on May 19 in a nonconference game, then knocked off Mount Horeb on the road two days later, 3-0.

Against the Madison co-op, the Raiders scored seven first half goals. Haley Thompson put the ball into the back of the net twice, while Paige Leonard, Lainey Winkers, Jenna Gentilli, Anya Brenkman and Hannah Boldebuck had a goal each. Boldebuck, Brenkman and Tenley Faber each added an assist, while Lily Maynard and Riley O’Flanagan each had two assists.

Morgan Thompson made two saves in the first half for Sugar River. Skyler Beyer didn’t face a shot in net for the Raiders in the second half. 

Against Mount Horeb, Boldebuck, Brenkman and Maynard scored goals. O’Flanagan and Brenkman assisted. Thompson had three saves, as the Raiders outshot the Vikings 12-3.


Monona Grove 11, Monroe 0

MONROE — The Cheesemakers couldn’t stop the Silver Eagles in the regular season finale May 19, which was also Monroe’s Senior Night.

Maia Romero had a hat trick for Monona Grove, scoring three goals back-to-back in the first half. Abby Koonce had the next two goals for the Eagles, with Kiarra Kahl, Chloe Adalin, Courtney Ryan and Morgan Hall all scoring to make it 9-0 at halftime. Kailey Adamski and Kendyl Mabie scored back-to-back penalty kick goals in the second half, ending the game early. 

Monroe forfeited the final game of the regular season — scheduled as a makeup on May 20 — to top-ranked Oregon.
