Raiders end 20-year losing streak to Spartans

BELLEVILLE — With its 5-1 win over McFarland on Thursday, Sept. 14, Sugar River snapped a 20-year losing streak to the Spartans. In six of the last seven seasons, McFarland has ended Sugar Rivers postseason run. 

Aiden Hatleberg kicked the game off with a goal 38 seconds in, assisted by Alvaro Perez. Brycen Teasdale added on six minutes later, and with a penalty kick goal in the 22nd minute, Hatleberg gave Sugar River a 3-0 lead.  Hatleberg completed his hat trick in the second half with an assist from Brady Mousseau. 

Clayton Streiff let up a penalty kick goal but stopped three other shots on goal. The Raiders had 13 shots on goal.


SUGAR RIVER 2, LODI 0

BELLEVILLE — Following a rain delay on Tuesday, Sugar River completed its game with Lodi on Saturday, Sept. 16. The game resumed at the 19-minute mark, but neither team scored in the first half. In the second frame, Breckyn Thompson scored on a corner kick from Hatleberg. With a penalty kick goal, Hatleberg extended the Raiders’ lead to 2-0.

Streiff stopped all three shots on goal, while Sugar River put 13 on Lodi’s goal.

Sugar River, ranked No. 3 in Division 3, improves to 3-0-0 in the Capitol Conference and 10-1-0 overall.
