ARGYLE — The Orioles were without two of their key starters Oct. 12 and lost to Barneveld in four sets, 23-25, 19-25, 25-21, 19-25. Senior middle blocker Tori Lantz was cleared to return to action from her knee sprain suffered Sept. 23 against Monticello, but did not play. Senior setter Megan Johnson was also unavailable for Argyle, meaning a new rotation was thrown in to an already depleted lineup.
“We were working through a new lineup, but we did some things well. We actually passed pretty well,” said Argyle coach Connie Wunschel. “Tori was cleared, but we wanted to take it easy with her since she has not practiced in a month. We didn’t want to jeopardize her return. We have Juda on Thursday and we’re hoping to get her out there a bit for that so she’s ready to go for the tournament next week against Cassville.”
Argyle hosts Cassville Oct. 19 in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal. If Argyle wins, the Orioles will host either Barneveld or Benton in the regional semifinal Oct. 21.
“Barneveld has some real fight. We were up 19-4 in Game 3 and they rallied and made us work,” Wunschel said of the set her team won 25-21.
Maggie Godfrey finished with 13 kills, 23 digs and an ace for the Orioles in Tuesday’s loss to Barneveld. Grace Ganshert had eight kills, an ace, a block and 37 digs.
