MONROE — The WIAA released the girls basketball brackets on Sunday, Feb. 12 during a live stream. Regionals will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. The lower seeded teams will travel to the higher seeded teams.

Monroe received a No. 10 seed and will play at No. 7 seed Stoughton. As of print time, the Cheesemakers were 2-20 on the season with wins against Freeport and Evansville. Stoughton, meanwhile, was 9-14. In a Badger crossover game on Tuesday, Nov. 22, the Vikings defeated the Cheesemakers 75-15 with four players in double figures.

As the No. 5 seed, Brodhead will host No. 12 seed Richland Center. At print time, the Cardinals were 15-6 with three games left to play, while the Hornets were 3-18. The two share a common opponent in Cuba City. The Cubans defeated both teams — Brodhead 60-46 and Richland Center 90-28.

At 22-0 and ranked No. 4 in Division 4, New Glarus received a first-round bye. The team will host the winner of No. 8 Marshall and No. 9 Waterloo. As Capitol South counterparts, the Knights have defeated both the Cardinals and Pirates.

With a 14-8 overall record, Darlington received the No. 6 seed and will host the No. 11 seed Parkview. The pair share a common opponent in Iowa-Grant. The Redbirds defeated their SWAL counterpart 62-32 and 69-35, while the Vikings lost to the Panthers 46-33.

Black Hawk looks to start fresh in the postseason, as the Warriors have lost six of their last seven games. As a No. 9 seed, Black Hawk will face off against No. 9 seed Six Rivers crossover Potosi-Cassville. Although the two teams never played one another, they share common opponents in Pecatonica and Shullsburg. The Warriors defeated the Miners 45-39 in November, while the Chieftains lost by scores of 41-30 and 63-43. Black Hawk split with Pecatonica, and Potosi-Cassville defeated Pecatonica 65-52 in their only meeting.

No. 15 Argyle runs into No. 2 seed Kickapoo, the Ridge & Valley conference champion. The Orioles have two wins on the season, one against North Crawford 58-52. As a conference opponent to North Crawford, Kickapoo also defeated the Trojans 56-31. Both teams lost to Shullsburg, too — Argyle 74-40 and Kickapoo 54-51.

Also undefeated at 23-0, Albany received the No. 1 seed. They will host No. 16 seed Madison Country Day. The Comets have defeated their opponents by an average of 34 points per game.

With an 8-12 record, No. 9 Pecatonica will travel to No. 8 Abundant Life-Saint Ambrose. The two teams have multiple opponents in common, most noteably Argyle. The Vikings defeated the Orioles by a 30-point margin 70-40, while the Challengers won by 13, 65-52. If Pecatonica and Albany won, they would play each other in the regional semifinal.

Three-win Juda received the No. 14 seed and will travel No. 3 Rio. The two teams have common opponents in Pecatonica and Barneveld. Rio defeated both teams in its Holiday classic in December, while Juda was swept by both teams in Six Rivers East play.

Monticello looks to keep peaking into the postseason, as the Ponies have won five of their last six games. As the No. 6 seed, Monticello will host No. 11 seed Hustisford. The two teams do not share a common opponent; however, the Falcons have lost four of their last five games. If Monticello wins and Juda pulls off the upset, the two teams would play each other in the regional semifinal.
