BLANCHARDVILLE — Pecatonica extended its winning streak to three games with a 5-1 victory over Southwestern in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal May 16. Senior Bri Peterson played a large role in the win, collecting the first RBI of the game and striking out 10 batters.

In the bottom of the first, Brooklyn Johnsrud reached base via hit by pitch. Peterson then lined a two-out double to left to put Pecatonica on the board first.

The Vikings tacked on three runs in the second, as Sophia Schraepfer led off with a single to right. After two outs, Diana Hendrickson kept the inning alive with an RBI single to right, scoring pinch runner Leaha Doescher.

Leadoff batter Maddie Hirsch drew a full-count walk. Alyssa Cassidy then hit a hard grounder to left — scoring Hendrickson — and took second on the throw home. Hirsch came around to score on a passed ball.

Each team put one run up in the fifth, making it a wash.

The Vikings had six hits from six different batters — Cassidy, Johnsrud, Peterson, Schraepfer, Hendrickson and Katelynn Jorenby. Hirsch was the only batter to reach twice, both by walk.

Peterson was dominant in the circle, giving up one unearned run on four hits. She struck out 10 batters and didn’t issue a free pass. Peterson pounded the zone, as 59 of 69 pitches were strikes.
