Pecatonica edges Mt. Horeb 3-2

MOUNT HOREB — Tyler McKeon scored two of the Vikings’ three runs, as Pecatonica defeated Mount Horeb 3-2 on Monday, May 22.

McKeon led off the game with a triple and scored on a passed ball. In the third inning, he reached on a two-out error. Two-hole hitter Jameson Johnson drove him in with a double, and cleanup hitter Coy Ruegsegger hit what proved to be the game-winning RBI.

Johnson picked up the win, giving up one earned run on five hits. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles. McKeon finished 2-for-4.


Cardinals complete comeback

BRODHEAD — Monticello-Albany took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Brodhead-Juda responded with eight unanswered runs for an 8-3 win on Monday, May 22.

At leadoff, Aidyn Vondra went 2-for-4 with a double and one run scored, while Brody Riese drove in a team-best two runs. Sam Searls pitched two innings of relief to earn the win. He gave up no hits and no runs, striking out three.

For the Ponies, Andrew Thoman and Tyler Patchen recorded the only hits. Patchen, Cody Pryce and Aidan Harvey drove in one run each. Brayden Bakken suffered the loss, giving up four unearned runs on two hits. He struck out three, as Monticello-Albany committed six errors.


Highland routes Black Hawk

SOUTH WAYNE — A pair of four-run innings for Highland secured a 15-2 victory over Black Hawk on Monday, May 22. 

The Warriors received five hits from five different batters — Jackson Berget, Carter Baumgartner, Gabe Tree, Brett Haldiman and Dylan Haldiman. Dylan Haldiman suffered the loss, giving up two earned runs in 1 1/3 innings. Black Hawk committed five errors.


Redbirds rally in sixth

DARLINGTON — Darlington scored four runs in the sixth to secure a 5-2 comeback win against Richland Center on Monday, May 22.

After a strikeout, the Hornet pitching staff hit three straight batters. Richland Center nearly escaped the inning unscathed, as relief pitcher Jacob McDonnell picked off Reagan Jackson from third, but he walked the next two batters. Roger Volkening then came through with a two-RBI single.

Breylin Goebel led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Gerson Soto picked up the win, giving up one earned run on two hits. He struck out six batters and walked just one.


Baraboo blanks New Glarus

BARABOO — New Glarus mustered just one hit in its 10-0 loss to Baraboo on Tuesday, May 23. Leyton Mihlbauer spoiled the no-hitter with his single to lead off the game. Ashlin Mihlbauer and Matt Roth also reached base on walks. Roth suffered the loss, giving up three earned runs on five hits.

In other local baseball, Southwestern mercy-ruled Argyle 16-6 on Monday, May 22.
