BLANCHARDVILLE — Pecatonica used 3-pointers and free throws to secure a 73-61 win over rival and conference-leader Argyle in a Six Rivers East game Jan. 16.

Tyler McKeon scored 25 points for the Vikings (6-3, 5-1), with teammate Jameson Johnson adding 23. As a team, Pecatonica drained nine 3s and were 18-for-31 from the free-throw line — including a 16-for-27 mark in the second half.

Foul trouble haunted Argyle (9-5, 5-1), which saw Casper Moen and Will Helfvogt foul out entirely, while Mason McNett, Max Godfrey and Ike Waage each finished the game with four fouls. The Orioles were 9-for-20 in the game from the stripe on their own, but just 4-for-11 in the second half, as Pecatonica pulled away. The Vikings led the Orioles 36-31 at halftime.

Argyle was whistled for 25 fouls in the game, including 19 in the second half, compared to Pecatonica, which had 19 total for the game and 10 in the contested second half. 

Pecatonica, Argyle and Barneveld (9-5, 5-1) are all tied for first place in the Six Rivers East halfway through the conference slate. The Vikings and Orioles play again on the final day of the regular season, Feb. 22.

Monroe 59, Evansville 41

EVANSVILLE — The Cheesemakers made the right changes at halftime and came out with a defensive focus in a Jan. 16 Rock Valley crossover win over the Blue Devils. Tied at 30 at the break, Monroe (7-4, 4-2 RV-Valley) held Evansville (1-12, 0-6 RV-Rock) to just 11 points in the second half on 5 of 20 (25%) shooting.

MHS was just 2-for-10 from beyond the arc in the first half, compared to 11-for-21 (52.3%) from inside the paint. In the second half, the Cheesemakers launched just three shots from behind the 3-point line (1-for-3), and just two more from mid-range (0-for-2). But inside the paint, Monroe was 11-for-19 (57.8%).

James Seagreaves led all scorers with 17 points for Monroe, while Logan Taylor added 10. Ryan Mathiason and Brody Cornfield each had eight points, and Joshua Meyer and Brandon Bassett added six apiece. Mathiason pulled in eight rebounds to lead Monroe, while Seagreaves had six boards and three steals. Marcus Ott dished out a team-high seven assists. Karder Tway led Evansville with 13 points.

Monroe shot 44.6% from the field in the game, and made just 6 of 15 (40%) free-throw attempts. Of the Cheesemakers’ 25 field goals, 20 were assisted, with five different players tallying at least two assists.

Albany 59, Madison Country Day 40

MADISON — The Comets jumped off to a hot start in the first half, taking full control of their nonconference host in a Jan. 16 boys basketball game.

Albany (9-6) led 44-14 at halftime and finished the game with 20 points off of 21 Country Day turnovers. The Comets had 12 steals, 24 deflections and assisted on 19 of 23 baskets. Albany was also 7-for-24 from beyond the arc and 6-for-11 from the charity stripe.

Ty Durtschi led Albany in points (25), rebounds (8) and assists (5). Teammate Kaden Zurfluh added nine points and seven boards. Tyler Patchen tallied six points, six boards and five steals, while Caleb Smith finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

Black Hawk 70, Juda 49

JUDA — The Warriors picked up their first win of the season in a Jan. 16 Six Rivers East win over the Panthers.

Black Hawk (1-12, 1-5) jumped out to a 35-19 lead at halftime and closed the door in the second half. Juda (0-12, 0-6) won the turnover battle 22-16, but had twice as many fouls (24-12), shot 30% from the field and was just 7 for 17 (41.2%) from the line.

Meanwhile, Black Hawk shot 46.9% from the field, including 45% from 3-point range (9-for-20) and hit 13 free throws.

Trae Hagen led the Warriors with 22 points and seven assists. Brycen Wilson added 20 for Black Hawk. For Juda, Braydon Steinmann dropped 20 points and teammate Jayden Brown tallied 15. 

Barneveld 69, Monticello 41

MONTICELLO — The Eagles went up by 13 at halftime and nearly doubled their lead before the final whistle in a Jan. 16 Six Rivers East win over the Ponies. Barneveld led 36-23 at the break and outscored Monticello 33-18 in the second half. 

The Eagles (9-5, 5-1) outscored the Ponies (4-8, 3-3) 32-12 in the paint and 21-6 off of turnovers. 

Ryer Indergand led all scorers with 19 points for Monticello. Teammate Alex Roe added eight. Three Eagles scored in double figures, with Kasey Helgeson’s 18 leading the way.

Brodhead 68, Delavan-Darien 56

BRODHEAD — Three Cardinals scored in double figures as Brodhead picked up a Rock Valley Conference crossover win on Jan. 16.

Gabe Bockhop (17), Cullen Walker (16) and Jaxon Dooley (15) led the way for Brodhead, with Sam Searls chipping in an extra eight points. Walker, a junior, is averaging 19.4 ppg this season and is just 72 points away from the 1,000-point career milestone. 

Brodhead (7-5, 5-2 RVC-Rock) led 29-21 at halftime. The Cardinals were 24 of 54 from the field, grabbed 35 rebounds, finished 11-for-14 from the line and hit 9 of 22 shots from downtown. Hunter Rendon led Delavan-Darien (5-9, 1-5 RVC-Valley) with 14 points.

Darlington 80, Riverdale 58

MUSCODA — The fourth-ranked Redbirds outpaced the host Chieftains by 15 points in the first half en route to a convincing SWAL victory Jan. 16.

Darlington (14-1, 6-1) led Riverdale (4-8, 3-4) 48-33 at halftime. Four Redbirds scored in double figures: Will Murray (26), Reagan Jackson (22), Brady Long (13) and Broker Buschor (11). Jackson and Brady Long each had a double-double, as Jackson hauled in 11 rebounds and Long tallied 11 assists. Carter Murray had seven of Darlington’s 19 steals.

The lone blemish for the Redbirds was a paltry 3-for-17 mark from beyond the arc. However, Darlington was 15-for-18 (83.3%) from the free-throw line and 28-for-49 (57%) from 2-point range. The Redbirds assisted on 26 of 31 buckets and out-rebounded the Chieftains 36-20. Andre Tainter led Riverdale with 16 points.
