NEW GLARUS — Down 7-2 in the fifth inning, the New Glarus Glarner Knights put together a six-run rally to top the Belleville Wildcats 8-7 in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal on Thursday, May 28.

The Wildcats (No. 11 seed) scored four runs in the top of the third inning, but the Knights (No. 6 seed) battled back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Belleville seemingly took control in the fifth inning when 3B Austin McKinley slammed a three-run homer over the rightfield fence to give the Wildcats a 7-2 lead.

But New Glarus came back in the bottom of the fifth as Brock Roth reached on a walk and Nolan Julseth and Landon Stelter got on base with back-to-back errors on the Wildcats. Ashlin Mihlbauer’s base hit scored both Roth and Julseth to make it 7-4. Ethan Colstad walked to load the bases. After Kamm Nehmer struck out, Braden Rear drove in Mihlbauer and pinch runner Liam Crawford with a base hit to get the Knights to within 7-6. Colstad scored on a single by Kaleb Weber tying the game at 7-7. Brock Roth put New Glarus ahead to stay with a single to right to score Rear.

Mihlbauer was 1x4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Rear was 1x2 with two runs driven in and two runs scored for New Glarus.

McKinley was 1x4 with three RBIs and scored a run and Gavan Crum was 2x3 with a walk and a run scored for Belleville.

New Glarus (14-8-1) advanced to play at Fennimore in the regional semifinal on Tuesday, June 2. Belleville ends its season 8-16.

Edgewood 7, Monroe 5

The Monroe Cheesemakers got off to a good start against the Edgewood Crusaders but couldn’t hold the lead and lost 7-5 in a Division 2 regional quarterfinal on Thursday, May 28.

The Cheesemakers (No. 11 seed) grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first inning as Eli Schaefer walked and scored on Marcus Ott’s RBI single. Zane Seffrood followed with a single and Logan Meier belted a triple to score Ott and Seffrood to give Monroe a 3-0 lead. Meier came home on a wild pitch to make it a 4-0 lead for the Cheesemakers.

The Crusaders (No. 6 seed) answered with a four-run second inning to tie the game. The Cheesemakers reclaimed the lead in the third inning after two were out. Ian Berg lined a triple into center field and scored on an RBI single by Sawyer Meier, putting Monroe ahead 5-4.

But Edgewood rattled off three runs in the bottom of the third and the Cheesemakers had no answer the rest of the way. The last 12 batters for Monroe were retired in order.

Centerfielder Logan Meier finished the day 1x4 with two RBIs and scored a run. Shortstop Trent Wyss went 2x4 and pitcher Marcus Ott was 2x3 with a run scored and an RBI. Ott pitched a complete game and gave up seven runs with no walks and three strikeouts.

Monroe finishes the season 6-17-1.

Lodi 6, Brodhead-Juda 0

The Brodhead-Juda Cardinals were shut out in their WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal game 6-0 by the Lodi Blue Devils on Thursday, May 28.

The Cardinals got just two hits, a single by Logan Krupke in the third and a single by Braylon Strehlow in the sixth.

Sam Searls pitched four innings, giving up five runs, three earned, four hits, six walks and five strikeouts. Krupke pitched two innings, giving up a run on two hits.

The Cardinals, a No. 14 seed, trailed 1-0 after two innings, but the Blue Devils, a No. 3 seed, pulled away with two runs in the third and two runs in the fourth.

Brodhead-Juda finishes the season 7-16.

Monticello-Albany 13, Fall River 3 (6 innings)

The Monticello-Albany Space Stallions (No. 6 seed) beat the Fall River Pirates (No.11 seed) 13-3 in six innings in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal on Thursday, May 28.

After scoring one run in the second inning, the Space Stallions started scoring runs in bunches with two in the third, four in the fourth, two in the fifth, and four in the sixth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Shortstop Tyler Constantini went 1x3 with a double, three RBIs and scored two runs. Ty Durtschi and Tanner Hilliard each hit a double and drove in a pair of runs.

Durtschi pitched five innings and allowed three runs on three hits, four walks and struck out eight.

Monticello-Albany (6-18) advanced to face Pecatonica in the regional semifinal at Blanchardville on Tuesday, June 2.

Kenosha Christian Life 5, Argyle-Black Hawk 1

The Kenosha Christian Life Eagles (No. 5 seed) beat the Argyle-Black Hawk Warbirds (No. 12 seed) 5-1 in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal on Thursday, May 28 at Kenosha.

The Warbirds were held to just one hit while the Eagles got a single run in the first inning along with two runs in the fifth and sixth.

Argyle-Black Hawk ends its season with a record of 1-17 overall.

Iowa-Grant 8, Darlington 6

The Darlington Redbirds got a late lead on the Iowa-Grant Panthers, but could not hold it in an 8-6 loss in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal on Thursday, May 28.

I-G took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but the Redbirds tied it with four runs in the second inning. The Panthers went ahead 5-4 in the third inning, but Darlington answered with a run in the fourth inning to make it 5-5.

The Redbirds took a 6-5 lead in the fifth when Dante Glendenning walked, advanced to second on a single by Parker Mosely, stole third, and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Peyton Dempsey.

But Iowa-Grant came back with a run to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth and added two runs in the sixth to overtake the Redbirds.

Zeke Zuberbuhler was 2x3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Mosely was 2x4 and scored a run. Landon Edgerton was 2x3 with an RBI.

The season ends for the Redbirds with an overall record of 7-9.

The Kenosha Christian Life Eagles (No. 5 seed) beat the Argyle-Black Hawk Warbirds (No. 12 seed) 5-1 in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal on Thursday, May 28 at Kenosha.

Argyle-Black Hawk ends its season with a record of 1-17 overall.
