SAUK PRAIRIE — Monroe-New Glarus swimming finished third (213 points) in its sectional, sending four individuals and two relays to state.
The highlight of the meet was the relay team of Megan Chapman, Anna Zentner, Delaney Lynch and Riley Hoesly breaking the school’s 19-year 200-yard freestyle relay record. The previous record was set by Lauren Plourde, Abby Dalton, Brittany Wilson and Ellie Radke in 2003. The 2022 squad swam the relay in 1:42.40 (4th), five seconds better than its seed time.
The same four also qualified in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:44.80 (3rd), surpassing the state-qualifying time by nearly 13 seconds. Piper Faber, Amelia Geib and Danika Doll will head to state with the team as alternates for both relays.
Individually, Chapman, Zentner, Lynch and Hoesly also qualified for state.
Chapman swam three seconds better than her seed time in the 200-yard freestyle for a fifth-place finish (2:00.34). She narrowly qualified for state in this event, as the standard was 2:00.80. In the 500-yard freestyle, Chapman shattered her seed time by 11 seconds with a 5:18.33 (4th).
Zentner qualified in two individual events, too. In her first event — the 200-yard IM — she took sixth with a time of 2:22.59. With a time of 1:02.40 (4th) in the 100-yard butterfly, Zentner just edged the state-qualifying standard of 1:02.84.
Lynch finished second in the 100-yard butterfly ahead of Zentner with a time of 1:00.91. Hoesly swam the 100-yard freestyle in 55.78 (5th), besting her seed time by five seconds. Had she swum closer to her seed time, Hoesly would have finished closer to 14th.
Geib just missed qualifying for state in the 100-yard backstroke. She swam it in 1:04.88, and the qualifying time was 1:04.15.
