Monroe fends off Milton
Cardinals top McFarland; Albany, Monticello drop home games

MILTON — The Cheesemakers improved to 2-0 on the season with a 67-62 win at Milton Nov. 30. 

Monroe used a 16-5 run over the final five minutes of the first half to go up by 10 at the break at 34-24. The Red Hawks worked their way back into the mix in the second half, and after a 3-pointer with 1:55 left in regulation brought it back to within two points at 62-60. 

With 1:32 left in regulation, Milton sophomore Ayden Goll went to the line to shoot bonus free throws with a chance to tie it, but missed the front end and Monroe’s George Brukwicki pulled down the rebound. Over the final 90 seconds, JT Seagreaves hit three free throws and Aaron Roidt added two more to keep Milton at bay.

JT Seagreaves and Carson Leuzinger each finished with 23 points, while Brukwicki added eight, Roidt seven and James Seagreaves six.


Brodhead 76, McFarland 62

MCFARLAND — The Cardinals stayed unbeaten after a second half rally on the road Nov. 30.

Brodhead trailed 33-32 at the break, but outscored the Spartans 44-29 in the second half.

Owen Leifker was 8 of 16 from the field, including 2-for-4 from deep and had 20 points. Josiah Engen (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Brady Malkow (10 points, 16 rebounds) each had a double-double for Brodhead, while Cullen Walker finished 4-for-5 from three and had 16 points. The Cardinals shot 31 of 61 from the field, 8 of 14 from 3 and 6 of 12 from the line.

Up next for the Cardinals is a road game Dec. 9 at East Troy, with the next home game Dec. 14 against Whitewater.


Belmont 82, Albany 65

ALBANY — Carson Brewer had 29 points for the Comets, but the Braves walked away with the win Nov. 30.

Brewer had 14 points at halftime as his team fell behind 38-26. James Schwartz finished with 10 points, with Drew Sertle adding seven and Brayden Bakken and Ethan Koss contributing with six each. Albany was 5-for-6 from the line and hit eight 3-pointers. Belmont was 13 of 24 from the line and hit just one 3.

In other boys basketball action, on Nov. 30 Black Hawk defeated Parkview 61-48 in a nonconference battle, and Pecatonica fell to Madison Abundant Life/St. Ambrose 62-46.


Fennimore 37, Monticello 29

MONTICELLO — The Ponies struggled finding offense in a Nov. 29 nonconference game against Fennimore. At halftime, Monticello had just 11 points — which was still one more than the Eagles.

In the second half, Fennimore outscored their hosts 27-18. The Eagles committed 15 turnovers and shot 0-for-8 from 3-point range, but finished 17 of 29 from the free throw line.
