McFARLAND — The Monroe Cheesemakers won the boys Division 2 track and field sectional at McFarland on Friday May 29 while the girls took sixth place.

The boys team scored 81 points and had three relay teams and four individuals qualify for the State Tournament in La Crosse Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6. Brodhead-Juda boys placed third with 50 points with one relay team and three individual state qualifiers. New Glarus was 21st with 15 points and two state qualifiers.

On the girls side, Monroe was sixth with 33 points and had two relay teams and two individual state qualifiers. New Glarus was 15th with 20 points and had two relay teams qualify for state. Brodhead-Juda finished 23rd with 11 points and had one state qualifier.

The state qualifiers for Brodhead-Juda boys include Grayson Arn in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash, Mavrik Plummer in the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run, and Simon Moore in the pole vault. The Cardinals also qualified their 4x100 meter relay team with Arn, Cohen Henze,Tegan Pinnow, and Nolan Bump. In addition, Brodhead-Juda’s Elliana Shank qualified in the girls 100 meter hurdles.

Also in Division 2, New Glarus will have two individual state qualifiers in boys with Tucker Sysko in the high jump and Brent Weeden in the shot put. New Glarus also qualified two of their girls relay teams. The 4x100 team of Gracie Atkinson, Marie Besley, Kalia Malaise, and Vivian Lancaster took fourth place at the sectional in McFarland and qualified for state and the 4x200 meter relay team of Atkinson, Malaise, Besley, and Lancaster also had a fourth place finish and made it to the state tournament.

The Track and Field Championships will be held at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex at UW-La Crosse Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6.

Division 3 Horicon Sectional

Area teams competed in the WIAA Division 3 Track and Field Sectional at Horicon on Friday, May 29. In the boys meet, Darlington placed ninth with 25 points. Argyle-Pecatonica was 22nd with 13 points. Albany finished 27th with eight points and Black Hawk 29th with six points.

In the girls meet, Darlington was seventh with 34.5 points. Argyle-Pecatonica 20th with 14 points. Belleville was 22nd with 10 points. Black Hawk finished 31st with four points and Monticello was 33rd with 3.5 points.

The Darlington boys saw their 4x400 meter relay team take fourth place with Peyton Dempsey, Ryder Fitzsimons, Calum Crist, and Zeke Zuberbuhler (with alternates Brendan Leary and Parker Smith) qualify for State. Zuberbuhler was also an individual State qualifier in the 200-meter dash by taking third place. Argyle-Pecatonica boys had a State qualifier with Barrett Ferrell getting fourth place in the 110 meter hurdles. Albany’s 4x800 meter relay team of Noah Lisser, Beckett Wachholz, Kaleb Broughton, and Brooks Wachholz placed third to qualify for the state tournament. Black Hawk boys had one state qualifier with Shane Wand qualifying with a fourth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles.

Darlington girls had two sectional champion relay teams and an individual state qualifier. The girls 4x400 meter relay team of Madison Welacha, Adalee Berget, Brianna Vazquez, and Alaina McGowan (with alternates Piper DePauw and Brenna Edgerton) were Sectional Champions as were the 4x800 meter relay team of Welacha, McGowan, Vazquez, and Berget (with alternates Edgerton and Austia Stauffacher) and punched their ticket to State. The Redbirds’ individual state qualifier is Alaina McGowan, who won the 800-meter run.

Argyle-Pecatonica had one individual state qualifier in the girls competition. Loretta Tisch was fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 48.12 seconds. The Belleville Wildcats also had one state qualifier in girls as Braxton Ayers came away with a fourth place finish in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, three inches.

UW-La Crosse will be the site of the Track and Field Championships. The competition will be held at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6.
