MOUNT HOREB — The Cheesemakers saw their season come to an end in a 70-30 drubbing against top-seeded Mount Horeb on March 7.
The host Vikings led 35-15 at halftime and the back half matched the front in the scorebook’s final numbers.
Monroe shot just 20.5% from the field, while Mount Horeb was at 40.3%. The Cheesemakers were also just 4-for-24 (16.7%) from three-point land, and MH finished 11-for-32 (34.4%).
The Vikings also cleaned up on the glass, nearly equaling the Cheesemakers on rebounds in Mount Horeb’s offensive end. The Vikings had 10 offensive boards while Monroe finished with just 21 defensive rebounds.
Mekhi Brown was the only Cheesemaker in double-figures scoring. He finished with 12 points, but struggled from the field, making just 3 of 16 attempts.
Mount Horeb’s Josh Manchester led all scorers with 34 points.
Wisconsin Dells 79, Brodhead 71
WISCONSIN DELLS — For one half, the Brodhead Cardinals held a lead over the Wisconsin Dells Chiefs in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal on March 7. After getting an 80-63 win over Viroqua in the regional quarterfinal days before, the Cardinals, the No. 7 seed, held a 31-30 lead at halftime over the No. 2 seed Chiefs.
In the second half, the Chiefs outscored the Cardinals 49-40 to take 79-71 win and end the Cardinals’ season. Senior Cullen Walker nearly had a double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds in a losing effort. Senior Gabe Bockhop added 15 points. Getting a double-double for Brodhead was senior Brody Riese with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Two other players for the Cardinals scored: Senior Josh Blum and junior Sam Searls each scored eight points. Brodhead ends their season with a record of 12-14.
In other area boys basketball results, Pecatonica was defeated by Abundant Life 88-44 on March 7, and Argyle fell to Belmont 61-55.
