BEAVER DAM — Juda head coach Willie Nelson picked up his first career win after his team’s best performance of the year Dec. 8, topping Wayland Academy 73-50.
“It feels pretty good getting that first one,” Nelson said. “There are things that we obviously need to fix, but it’s good to get this one in the books.”
Nine different Panthers scored in the game, with three reaching double figures — Hannah Powers (18), Montana Steinmann (16) and Paige Price (10). Riese Price and Triniti Elmer each had eight and Taylor Golackson had nine for Juda.
“It was definitely a team effort. Everybody played hard and they all had fun,” Nelson said.
Juda (1-6) led 44-25 at halftime, with all four of its three splashing down in the frame.
Up next for the Panthers are two of the top teams in the conference — Argyle and Black Hawk.
“They will be rough ones, so it’s good to get this win out of the way first,” Nelson said.
