Darlington edges Fennimore, NG trounces Waterloo

FENNIMORE — Despite an off-night, the No. 5-ranked Redbirds surpassed the Golden Eagles 48-43 on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Darlington entered the night averaging 67.2 points per game with three players averaging double figures. Against Fennimore, just one of those players scored in double figures: Carver Fitzsimons (11 points). Reagan Jackson, who entered the game averaging 5.4 points, broke out for 16 points. On the boards, Will Murray led with eight rebounds, followed by seven each from Fitzsimons and Brady Long.

Although the Redbirds were just 1-for-15 from beyond the arc, they outrebounded the Eagles 36-28 and shot better from the field (34%-31%).


NEW GLARUS 54, WATERLOO 37

NEW GLARUS — Ethan Friedrich’s 20-point performance led New Glarus over Waterloo in a conference game on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Friedrich drained three 3-pointers in his 20-point total. The other two threes came from Jack Leonard (three points) and Brett Warrell (five points). The second-highest scorer on the team was Max Parman with seven points, going 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. AC Strok (six points) and Jake Roth (four points) each went a 2-for-2 at the charity stripe.


JEFFERSON 70, BRODHEAD 60

JEFFERSON — In a battle of 2-6 teams in the Rock Valley conference, Jefferson came out on top on Tuesday, Jan. 17. The two teams were tied at 30 after the first half, but the Eagles pulled away with 40 points in the second half.

Cullen Walker led the Cardinals with 23 points, 12 of them beyond the arc. He also went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. Jaxon Dooley trailed with 14 points, shooting just over 50% from the charity stripe at 6-for-13. Sam Searls, Brody Riese and Nathan Engen all tallied six points. Aidyn Vondra drained a three, while Gavin Pinnow scored two for the final points.

In other local basketball, Pecatonica fell to Abundant Life Christian School 73-41.
