JOHNSON CREEK — Albany won for the 13th straight game, dominating Johnson Creek 67-37 in a nonconference game Feb. 1.

The Comets (15-4, 7-1 Six Rivers East) entered the game freshly ranked No. 9 in the WBCA poll for the first time since dropping out of the rankings in Week 3. 

Senior Kaiya Zurfluh scored 20 points to lead Albany in scoring, adding seven rebounds in the process. Brianna Dahl had 16 points, nine boards, five steals and four assists. Alana Durtschi added nine points and eight rebounds.

Albany jumped out to a 38-19 lead headed into halftime. The Comets were slated to host Argyle (10-9, 5-3) on Feb. 3, then play at Madison Abundant Life/St. Ambrose Feb. 5 in a nonconference game.


Black Hawk 48, Belmont 38

SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors picked up a solid double-digit win over fifth-ranked Belmont Jan. 31.

Tara Wellnitz led Black Hawk with 15 points, five rebounds and four steals before fouling out. Tatum Baumgartner had 14 points and three steals, while Raylin Peterson finished the night with 10 points and nine boards.

The Warriors (13-5, 8-1 Six Rivers East) led 22-18 at halftime. The Braves (14-4, 5-1 Six Rivers West) dropped out of the polls the next day.

In other area action Feb. 1, Darlington beat Potosi-Cassville 34-32 and New Glarus fell to Columbus 53-49. The day before, on Jan. 31, Monticello topped Juda 43-41 and Pecatonica beat Madison Country Day 52-22.
