LODI — The Cheesemakers won the eight-team Lodi Invitational with 340 points, topping second-place Merrill (219) and third-place Edgerton (174).
“The girls were focused and ready for Saturday,” Monroe head coach Linda Moser said. “This is the second year in a row they have won the Lodi Invitational.”
Monroe-New Glarus opened with a bang, winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:57.98. The Cheesemakers won three races in total, which included Mekenzie Hammer winning the 200 individual medley (2:16.04) and Karley Michels taking top honors in the 100 breaststroke with a personal best time of 1:15.58.
The Cheesemakers finished second in three events and had third place finishes in five races.
Hammer was second in the 100 backstroke with a personal-record time of 1:00.96, one second behind Merrill’s Grace Schultz, and Hammer’s teammate Morgan Erstad was third (1:03.64).
Erstad was second in the 500 freestyle (5:35.58). Alyssa Roelli was third in the 100 butterfly (1:07.11) and seventh in the 200 free (2:14.38), one spot behind teammate Anna Newcomer (2:13.91). Francesca Schiro was third in the 100 free (57.91) and third in the 50 free (26.66).
Monroe faced defending state champion Edgewood on the road Tuesday and hosts Stoughton Sept. 18.
