Cheesemakers stumble; Raiders win 4

PLATTEVILLE — Monroe lost a nonconference soccer game to Platteville Sept. 5 by a score of 8-1.

The Hillmen scored four goals in each half, with Monroe’s long goal coming early on in the second half. Alex Torres scored off an assist from John Reinders to make it 4-1, but Platteville netted another goal just 30 seconds later.

Julio Vasquez and Aidan Lambert split time as keeper for Monroe, each given a half to play. Vasquez had eight saves and Lambert had four.


COLUMBUS — Ryan Downing scored the first two goals of the night for the Raiders in the opening 20 minutes. Carter Siegenthaler made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute, and Charlie Douma added another goal in the 31st minute to put Sugar River up 4-0 before halftime.

In the second half, Garrett James scored less than two minutes in to make it 5-0, and then Douma scored back-to-back netters to complete the hat trick. Breckin Faber scored the final goal of the game in the 68th minute.

Julian Lutz had seven saves in net.


WALWORTH — Sugar River went 3-0 at the annual Big Foot Invitational.

The Raiders defeated Richland Center 5-0, Westosha Central 1-0 and Waterford 2-1.

Faber scored two goals against Richland Center, with Douma, Logan Niesen and Noah Ziperski each adding goals.

In the win over Westosha Central, Downing scored in the second half. Faber and Downing had goals against Waterford.
