MAZOMANIE — The Raiders picked off the Vanguards in the Capitol Conference opener Sept. 1.
Aiden Hatleberg scored late in the first half on a corner kick to put Sugar River ahead, and Reid Nolden put it away with a goal from outside the 18-yard box in the second half. Defensively, the Raiders locked up the Vanguards, with Jack Douma leading the back row’s strong defense, which enabled keeper Clayton Streiff to stop the only two shots he faced.
“They always play us tough,” said Bob Gentilli, Raiders coach. “It was a battle as Heights played a solid defensive game.”
He said his team did a great job of possessing the ball the majority of the game, which helped keep the Vanguards off of the offensive attack.
Up next for the Raiders was the Big Foot tournament Sept. 3, with results unavailable by press time.
