CASSVILLE — During the holiday break, the Orioles traveled to Cassville for a tournament, where they lost two games to Ithaca and New Lisbon.
In the opening game, Argyle fell to Ithaca 70-55. The Bulldogs outscored the Orioles in both halves, 38-29 in the first and 32-36 in the second.
William Helfvogt led the team with 21 points, nine of which came from beyond the arc. Max Godfrey trailed with 14 points and the fourth 3-pointer for Argyle. Ike Waage was one point away from double figures, tallying nine points.
Micah Salisbury and Zander Jones propelled Ithaca with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Jones was 4-for-9 from the charity stripe with one three, while Salisbury was a perfect 5-for-5 on free throws. Channing Brown tallied 13 points with two 3-pointers, while Sammy Clary also made two threes in his 10-point total. The Bulldog’s remaining 3-pointer came from Devin Ihm (nine points).
In the second game of the tournament, Argyle performed better but came up just short to New Lisbon by a score of 67-61.
The two teams were tied at 36 after the first half, but the Rockets outscored the Orioles 31-25 in the second half for the win.
The trio of Waage, Godfrey and Helfvogt led Argyle once again. This time, Waage had a team-high 20 points, while Godfrey and Helfvogt tallied 15 points each. The three combined for all five of the Oriole’s 3-pointers. The remaining 11 points came from Mason McNett (nine points) and Thomas Nelson (two points). Argyle had just four opportunities at the free-throw line, capitalizing on two of them.
Ashton Pfaff was the thorn in Argyle’s side, scoring 30 points with five 3-pointers. Nikita Shankle put up 12 points, followed by Lucas Vercimak with 11 points.
With the loss, Argyle dips below .500 at 3-4.
