WATERTOWN - The New Glarus-Monticello boys and girls cross country teams finished at the top of their respective Capitol South fields at the Capitol Conference meet Tuesday in Watertown.
The Knights also boasted the top overall finisher - including Capitol North runners - for both the girls race and boys race. Senior Ryan McCoy finished first for the boys, with a time of 15:59. On the girls side, senior Madeline Brunner finished first with a time of 15:54.
Led by McCoy, the boys team took first in the Capitol South with a total time of 88:50. Senior Alexander Yieser was second on the team with a time of 17:31, good for third in the conference. Junior Caleb Fredrickson finished eighth (18:23), sophomore John Zuber finished 11th (18:26), and junior Young Chul Vetterli finished 12th (18:31) to round out the team score.
Belleville finished second with a total time of 92:20 and Wisconsin Heights-Barneveld took third with a time of 93:34, edging out Marshall by one second.
In the girls race, with Brunner leading the way, the Cheesemakers finished first in the Capitol South with a total time of 84:15. Senior Anna Cruse was second on the team with a time of 16:10, good for third in the conference. Sophomore Sam Barr finished sixth (17:02), junior Carly Duerst took eighth (17:29) and freshman Kerry McCoy finished 11th (17:40) to round out the team score.
Deerfield-Cambridge finished second with a total time of 86:33 and Marshall took third (91:52).
