Juda edges Pecatonica in 5

JUDA - Sophomore MacKenzie Byrne came through with seven straight service points and four aces in the decisive fifth set to propel Juda to a thrilling five-set win over Pecatonica Tuesday.

Juda (4-1, 2-0 Six Rivers East) won the first set 25-15 and dropped the second set 25-19. The Panthers won the third set 25-16 and the Vikings pulled out a nail-biting fourth set 29-27. That set the stages for the winner-take-all fifth set.

Byrne's seven-point run from the service line kick-started the Panthers to an 8-1 lead and they hung on for a 15-11 win. Juda junior Aurora Daniels had two kills in the final set to key the run.

"Pec showed no signs of surrender," Juda coach Scott Anderson said. "They have really improved. The Six Rivers East has got extremely tough."

Anderson said Byrne's serving run was huge.

Juda junior Sara Jordan had 11 kills while battling back spasms. Byrne had a team-high 13 assists and notched eight aces. Senior Megan Powers added 13 assists. Junior Alexis Goecks racked up 27 digs, and senior Robyn Wahl had a team-best seven blocks.

Pecatonica senior outside hitter Clara Moen had six kills and four digs. Junior teammate Liz Tisch notched 15 assists and senior Britt Miller had a team-high five blocks. With the loss, Pecatonica drops to 5-3, 1-2 Six Rivers East.

"She's a tough player to plan for," Anderson said of Miller.



ARGYLE 3, MONTICELLO 0

MONTICELLO - Sophomore Ashley Bruehlman had 13 kills to lead the Orioles to a sweep of the Ponies 25-15, 25-23, 25-10.

Junior Kayla Butler Paulson had 25 assists, Dorissa Denure had 19 digs and Katie Larson six aces to power Argyle (2-0 Six Rivers East)

Sophomore Alaya Hummel had seven kills and four blocks for Monticello (1-2 Six Rivers East). Junior Jessie Garrison added 19 assists and three aces. Junior Chandler Hansen had 10 digs, and juniors Bri Graber and Megan Lehr added four and three kills, respectively.
