Juda-Albany hangs on against BH; Cards top BF

JUDA - The Black Hawk softball team had defending WIAA Division 4 state champion Juda-Albany on the ropes in a Six Rivers East Conference showdown Monday.

Black Hawk built a 6-0 lead over the Panthers through 3 1/3 innings. Juda-Albany (4-1, 4-0 Six Rivers East) battled back and had an eight-run sixth inning to pull out a thrilling 10-7 win over the Warriors.

"They (Black Hawk) were doing a really good job of putting the ball in play, manufacturing runs, getting bunts down and putting the pressure on us," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "We just had to keep it at 6-0."

The Panthers scored two runs in the fourth before exploding in the sixth.

"In that big sixth inning we did what they did," Davis said. "We got our first couple of hitters on base, the girls kept fighting and came back and hit the ball."

Juda-Albany senior Hailey Kammerer went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles and a triple. Senior teammate Sammi Detra was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a double and senior Haley Freitag finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Juda-Albany senior Nicki Becker pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up four earned runs on seven hits, struck out 10 and walked one.

Black Hawk freshman Bailey Butler went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the seventh. Sophomore Hannah Butler, Bailey's sister, had three RBIs and a double.

Hannah Butler also tossed a complete game and gave up six earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out four and walking three.



Brodhead 5, Big Foot 1

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to come back to knock off Big Foot in a Rock Valley Conference game Monday.

Brodhead senior Azzy Steiner went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to propel the Cardinals to the victory. Brodhead senior McKenna Bump and Leslie Pryce each added one RBI.

Steiner handcuffed the Chiefs on the mound pitching a complete game to get the win. She gave up one run on three hits and struck out nine.



Iowa-Grant 10, Darlington 0

LIVINGSTON - Iowa-Grant pounded out 11 hits and rolled to a shutout of Darlington in six innings.

Iowa-Grant's Olson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Lexi Busse was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Iowa-Grant's Grace Kite finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

The Redbirds were limited to just three hits that came from Bethany McDonald, Holly Ray and Taylor Crist. Darlington's Alyssa Tuescher pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up eight earned runs on 10 hits. She struck out three and walked five.
