JANESVILLE - Top seeded Rock County Fury routed the Badger Lightning 12-1 Friday in the opening round of the WIAA girls hockey playoffs.

The Fury scored nine goals in the first period alone to set the pace.

Seven different players scored in the game, led by Haley Knauf, Alyssa Knauf, Maggy Henschler, Zoie Steig and Presley Kovacevich - all of whom scored two goals each.

Dani Heitsman and Anne Runde, each a defenseman, scored as well for the Fury.

Both Rock County goaltenders saw action. The Fury outshot the lightning 31-7.

Up next for the Fury is a sectional semifinal on Tuesday against Middleton at 7 p.m. at the Janesville Ice Arena.
