STOUGHTON - The Monroe boys tennis team swept all three doubles matches en route to a season-opening 4-3 win over Stoughton Thursday in a dual meet.

"We knew heading into this match that we would stack up pretty well against Stoughton, as they have several younger players and several players new to the sport just like we do," Monroe coach Matt Bordner said. "We came into this match hoping to find out what our strengths were and what we need to work on."

Monroe's No. 1 doubles team of Evan Thompson and Nick Schumacher defeated Stoughton's J.P. Fisher and Zerek Zeichert 7-5, 6-2.

"Our doubles pairs all took victories today, which was a major bright spot considering all six of them are first-year players," Bordner said. "(Thompson and Schumacher) both showed a lot of hustle and athletic shots in their match."

At No. 2 doubles, the Cheesemakers' David Keegan and Nick Quinn rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 win over the Vikings' Evan Jensen and Stephen Krecma. Monroe's No. 3 doubles team of Wade Sweeney and Luke Quinn topped Stoughton's Reece Cline and Brody Jerrick 6-0, 6-2.

"(Keegan, Nick Quinn, Sweeney and Luke Quinn) took care of business in their matches and really played to their strengths," Bordner said. "We knew that all of our doubles pairs were stronger at the net, so the guys did a nice job of being aggressive and putting themselves in positions to win points at the net."

The other win for the Cheesemakers came from Chris Andraski at No. 3 singles. He beat the Vikings' Alex Dedie 6-4, 7-5.

Monroe was scheduled to compete at the Delavan-Darien Quad today, but it was postponed due to rain and cold weather. Monroe will next host Watertown in another conference dual Tuesday.

"We have a lot of things to work on as we move forward in the season, and I'm looking forward to seeing how our guys respond against some of the top teams in the conference," Bordner said. "If we keep having productive practices and learning from each match we play, we will be heading in the right direction."
