DARLINGTON - In a Southwest Wisconsin Activities League showdown, Darlington rolled to a 10-0 win and took over sole possession of first place in the conference.

Darlington seniors Jason Singer and Cole McDonald combined on a four-hit shutout. McDonald pitched one perfect inning before being forced out of the game with an injury. Singer pitched four innings to get the win. He struck out one and walked one.

McDonald hit a single in the first inning and got his pinkie finger on his pitching hand stepped on after sliding back into second base on a pickoff throw. With blood coming from his fingers, McDonald was removed from pitching and didn't play the rest of the game. Darlington sophomore Will Schwartz was moved to shortstop and made a diving catch in the hole in the second and made a throw from deep in the hole for an out.

"We really didn't miss a beat," Darlington coach Brad Solberg said of Singer coming in to pitch. "Will Schwartz made two really good plays at shortstop. It was the second time he played there all year. From there, Jason was on cruise control after that."

McDonald got stitches, but Solberg said he will not miss any games.
