Darlington dominates conference meet

LIVINGSTON - The Darlington girls team finished first Thursday at the SWAL's second conference invite. The Redbirds' Hana Miehe finished second in sixteen minutes, 21 seconds.

Teammates Olivia Wedig (16:35) and freshman Amy Jorgenson (16:53) helped the Redbirds take three of the top five spots, claiming fourth and fifth, respectively. Sophomore Taryn Evenstad came in seventh overall at 17:02.

Darlington finished with 35 points, just one point ahead of Boscobel.

On the boys side, the Redbirds swept the top five and had seven runners finish in the top 14.

Junior Jordan Heinberg (18:01) took first, followed by senior Markus Garrison (18:07), freshmen Kent Miehe (18:25) and Michael Sinclair (18:38) and sophomore Connor Roche (18:43). Senior Brett Hardyman (19:10) came in 10th and sophomore Seth Endres (19:35) finished 14th.

The Redbirds finished with just 15 points, the lowest amount possible, for the win. Boscobel finished second with 41 points.

second at conference

BROOKWOOD - The Albany boys cross country team repeated as Scenic Ridge and Rivers Conference champions Thursday.

The Comets, led by three all-conference runners, including repeat conference champion Jake Lincicum, Drew Mather and Reece Whitehead, clipped Brookwood for the title, 43-48.

Lincicum, who was second team all-state last year after finishing fourth at state, won conference again. He ran the course in 16 minutes, 57 seconds. Mather finished eighth (18:30) and Whitehead took ninth (18:32).

The Comets placed four runners in the top 16, including Jake Short, 15th (19:04) and Travis Helland, 19th (19:09).

In the girls race, Pecatonica-Argyle's Elise Sigg, a University of Wisconsin Milwaukee recruit, won the conference title for the second straight year.

The team finished second overall behind champion Cashton, which outdistanced the Comets 39-55 for the title. The Comets had four of the top 16 runners, including Jessica Mauerman, third (17:02); Nicolette Blumer, 13th (18:21); Rosy Bauman, 14th (18:45) and Ingrid Kallgren, 16th (19:00).
