WAUNAKEE - The hot got hotter in Saturday's Badger Conference Soccer Challenge.
Monroe stormed past Poynette-Portage, 4-0, in the first game before outplaying Reedsburg, 4-0, on the smallest field at the 14-team event.
"When you're playing on a small field, transition is so very crucial," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said.
Riding the momentum of a four-game winning streak, Monroe scored two goals in both halves against the Beavers.
Catie Eiserman registered four points in the victory, scoring the second and third goals while assisting on the first and final tallies. After Monroe took a 2-0 lead into the half, Kayln Kundert used a beautiful cross to get the ball to junior Pam Lehman, who got the ball on the foot of Eiserman.
"(Eiserman) always pus a tremendous amount of pressure on wherever she plays," O'Neill said. "It's been all about getting confidence in front of the net and she's got that now."
Monroe dominated the second game with crisp passing, great runs and timely through-balls.
The Cheesemakers' outstanding back line of defense once again selflessly logged 80 minutes apiece again.
"We have four defenders who have played literally every minute along with our keeper," O'Neill said. "They never ask to come out and never complain. Two 80-minute games in a row is a lot of running. Everyone remembers who scores the goals, but they might not take notice of the hard work our defenders do."
Abby Schneider, a freshman midfielder, more than got noticed by assisting on two goals in the opening game, the second of which made the lead 4-0 right before the break as she set up Erin Solawetz.
Schneider has logged every minute of every game this season.
"At first that was a little bit overwhelming for her," O'Neill said. "She was just a stellar player for us this weekend."
Monro's eight goals were the most scored in the event, and the Lady Cheesemakers joined Madison Edgewood as the only teams to pitch two shutouts.
