William J. “Bill” or “Doc” Skog

William J. “Bill” or “Doc” Skog, age 60 of Darlington, WI, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at UW-Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born December 15, 1958, in Omaha, NE, the son of William and Lois (Chantry) Skog. Bill grew up in Omaha where he graduated from Omaha Central High School in 1977. After high school, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Iowa after beginning on an art scholarship. He later went on to receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University. After he finished school, Bill moved to Shullsburg, WI, where he began practicing veterinary medicine. In 1988, Bill bought a farm in Darlington where he raised his family.

Bill is survived by his son: Andrew (Shawna) Skog of Mazomanie, WI; two grandchildren that he adored: Vincent and Tessa Skog; his fiancé: Phylis Andrews of Omaha, NE; and three brothers: Steve Skog of Omaha, NE, Jeff (Ricki) Skog of Omaha, NE, and Paul (Jacque) of Evanston, WY. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bill cherished his family, especially his son and grandchildren. He was a deep thinker. He believed in traditional farming. Bill enjoyed being outdoors, especially hiking and fishing, and wanted to leave a lasting environmental legacy. He was very athletic despite his disabled right leg and loved playing hockey and ice skating growing up. As an adult, Bill loved bowling and swimming. During his free time, Bill liked to spend time with his friends at the tavern chatting, laughing, and playing cards. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at Darlington American Legion Hall (1400 Keep St., Darlington) with Rev. Angela Utter of Darlington United Methodist Church officiating. A visitation will be held Friday, February 1, 2019, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Darlington American Legion Hall and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the Legion Hall.
