William F. "Bill" Dickson

William F. "Bill" Dickson, age 87, of Monticello, died on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Glarner Lodge Assisted Living in New Glarus. Bill was born on December 5, 1936 in Monroe, the son of Roy and Anne (Schild) Dickson. After graduating from high school in Clinton, Missouri in 1954, Bill served in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1957. He was united in marriage to Kay M.Klooster on March 28, 1970 at the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello. Bill owned and operated Dickson's Grocery on Main Street in Monticello for almost 20 years. Bill was heavily involved in his community, including his time as a bus driver for the school district and his service as the Street Superintendent for the Village for 18 years until retiring in 2002. He was a member of Zwingli UCC, Monticello Village Board, Monticello Community Club, and in his younger years served as a volunteer fireman. Through his service to the Monticello Village Board, Bill was instrumental in helping develop the Sugar River State Trail, slow pitch diamond, and Montesian Community Gardens.

Bill loved being "up north" at the cabin. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends, especially with his best friend, Bob Voss. He was an avid sports fan and you could always find him in the stands cheering loudly for both his daughters and his grandchildren. Bill’s love for his family was reflected in every aspect of his life. One of the most memorable examples of this was when he warmly opened his home to Kimberly, Emily, and Allison while Brian was stationed overseas with the U.S. Army.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 54 years, Kay Dickson, of New Glarus (formerly of Monticello); two daughters, Christine (Robert) Meier of Belleville, Kimberly (Brian) Vogt of Yorktown, VA; five grandchildren, Daniel Meier (fiancée, Caroline), Brenna Meier, Nathan Meier, Emily (Christopher) Escamilla, and Allison Vogt. He is further survived by his siblings, Royanne Aunchman, Tom (Judy) Dickson, Susan (David) Mowery, Marianne (Phil Enscoe) Dickson, Ken (Marianne Nover) Dickson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at

12:00 p.m. at Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Rev. Larry Balleine officiating. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe.
