Robert J. Tuescher, 87 of Monroe passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at SSM Health Hospice Home.  He was born Robert Schlappi on March 14, 1937 the son of Margaret Schlappi in Milwaukee.  His mother married Walter Tuescher February 8, 1944 and then he adopted Robert on February 15, 1955.  He married Mary Jane Notter February 7, 1959 and they lived in the Browntown area.  Robert worked at the Johnson and Spece Cheese Factories.  They had two sons Michael and Mark and the family moved to Monroe in 1974 where he then worked at Swiss Colony, Lanz Sheet Metal, and then for the City of Monroe in the maintenance department for City Hall, the Police Department, Street Department, and the Senior Center retiring in 2007.

Through the years he enjoyed snowmobiling, riding his motorcycle, deer hunting, and fishing with Stan Franson almost every Wednesday in Dubuque.  In 2002 he took a trip to Switzerland with Ernie Ammon.  

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; sons, Michael and Mark; granddaughter, Chondra Tuescher; brothers, David (Diane) Tuescher; sisters, Barbara (Lyle) Samson, Mary Jo (Roger) Reents, and Karen (Michael) Schlichting; brothers-in-law, Richard Roger and James Notter; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; uncle, mother and father-in-law, brother, Joseph Tuescher; and brothers-in-law, Daniel, Norman, and Randall Notter.  

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home.  

A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 12:00 PM Noon until 3:00 PM at the Monroe Moose Lodge.  Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.   

The family would like to thank the SSM Health Hospital and SSM Health Hospice Home for the kind and compassionate care they showed Robert; as well as his son Mark for taking care of his dad until he went into the hospice home.
