Lois J. Sweeney, age 90 of Brodhead, WI, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Woods Crossing Nursing Home in Brodhead. She was born September 3, 1930 in Adam Township in Green County, WI, the daughter of Teddie and Mable (Everson) Thompson. Lois graduated from Argyle High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to Fredrick “Bud” Sweeney on June 12, 1948 in Monroe, WI. Lois grew up in the Blanchardville and Argyle area before moving to Juda, where they lived for 47 years. In 2009, they moved to Brodhead, where she has resided since. Lois worked for a number of people over the years doing in home health care and cleaning until retiring in 1995.
Lois is survived by her children: Shirley Leck of Brodhead, WI, Connie Meighan of Topock, AZ, Wayne (Deb) Sweeney of Juda, WI, Sharon (Robert) James of Monroe, WI, and Randy (Tami) Sweeney of Janesville, WI; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister: Lela (Robert) Sweeney of Sparta, WI; two sisters-in-law: Joyce Young of Wiota, WI, and Doris Fox of Wichita, KS; friend: Beth Ladrizel of Avoca, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on July 17, 2009; one great-granddaughter: Samantha Meighan; one brother: Merlin Thompson; three sisters: Helen Anderson, Doreen Judd, Joyce Gilbertson; four sisters-in-law: Lou Sweeney, Bonnie Sweeney, Betty Schnulle, and Lois Walters; seven brothers-in-law: Robert Fox, Robert Young, Ronald Sweeney, Donald Berget, Basil “Bud” Walters, Ole Anderson, and Selmer Judd, Jr.; son-in-law: David Leck; and friend Mayona Johnson.
Lois cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and the memories they created together more than anything else in the world. She loved reading, baking, and doing ceramics over the years. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at the Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle with Rev. John Tabaka of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Argyle. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at the funeral home.
