Lester LaVerne Mau, age 92, of South Wayne passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at his home. He was born on February 12, 1927 the son of Chester and Pearl (Burkhalter) Mau at his home farm in Wayne Township. Lester was christened at St. John’s Evangelical Church in Monroe on August 20, 1929. He attended West Wayne School. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Lorraine Melland on November 15, 1950 at East Wiota Lutheran Church; she preceded him in death on March 25, 2019. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Wayne for many years.

Lester developed a strong work ethic at age 14, when his father died unexpectedly in 1941; he took over and ran the family farm until 1987 when he and Marjie moved to South Wayne. He enjoyed taking trips with his family, hunting, and fishing.

Lester is survived by his sons, Duane (Pat) Mau of Reedsburg and Delvin (Mary) Mau of South Wayne; three grandchildren, Sarah (Jesse) Voegeli, Stacy (Jim) Foecking, and Stephanie (Terry) Plath; six great-grandchildren, Taylor, Garrett and Owen Voegeli, Gunner and Halle Jo Foecking, and Carson Plath; sister, Ethel (Mau) Eckerman; brothers-in-law, Roy Holverson, Calvin (Myrtle) Melland and Alvin Melland; sisters-in-law, Winogene Everson, Ramona DeNure, and Juanita (Jeff) Kant; and special nieces and nephew, Lori Melland, Allen and LeeAnn Melland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjie; sister, Marian (Jewel) Gallagher; brothers-in-law, Donald Eckerman, Robert Everson, Kenneth DeNure, and Walter (Lois) Melland; sister-in-law, Muriel Holverson; niece, Linda Eckerman, nephews, Donald Gallagher, Tommy Melland, and Kevin Holverson; great-niece, Devon Gabioud; and great-nephew, Bryant Gabioud.

Funeral Services will be held at 12PM NOON on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Wayne with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Burial will take place following the service in Union Cemetery, South Wayne. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 10AM until the time of the service, at the church.
