John Wasserstrass, 76, of Beloit, WI, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 in his home. He was born on October 26, 1947 in Crystal Lake, IL, the son of George and Marjorie (Tredup) Wasserstrass. John attended the University of Chicago from 1965 until 1969 and received his Bachelors Degree in Mathematics. He furthered his education at Georgia State University from 1970 until 1972 and received his Masters Degree in Math Education. John attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee from 1973 until 1977, graduating with a Masters Degree in Engineering. He was a Vietnam veteran serving with the United States Army from 1969 until 1972. John married Patricia Zierke on August 26, 1972 in Racine, WI. She predeceased him on March 13, 2020. John was formerly employed by Beloit Corporation as a Software Engineer for 26 years until his retirement in 1999. John taught mathematics at the high school and college level at numerous schools in Wisconsin, Illinois, and South Carolina. He enjoyed playing and coaching volleyball, as well as playing pickle ball in his free time. John was proud of his German heritage and was the president of the German Interest Group. Education was very important to John; he was a long-time member of the Beloit Society for Learning Unlimited. John played the violin in the University of Wisconsin Rock County Orchestra. Survivors include his daughters, Jennifer (Jonathan) Stern of Evanston, IL and Gwendolyn (Joey) Titensor of Cudjoe Key, FL; grandchildren, Sierra Titensor, Jason Stern, and Mason Titensor; siblings, Calvin (Sandra) Wasserstrass and Diane (Walter) Gavand; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, JaneMarie (Jim) Schatzman. John was predeceased by his parents and wife. A Memorial Service for John will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI.
