John Mayer of Cedarville, IL passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the age of 66.
He is preceded in death by his father, Delbert Mayer of South Wayne, WI. He is survived by his mother, Ginny Mayer of Monroe, WI; his brothers, Bob (Stacie), Dave (Tina), and Steve (Kim); his first wife Janet Mueller; their son, Jason (Jennifer) and grandchildren Benjamin and Victoria; his second wife, Diane Mayer, her son, Chad (Angie) and grandchildren Archie and Josie; as well as his sister-in-law, Betty Jean and family, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
John was born in South Wayne, WI on January 24th, 1958, the second of 4 boys to Delbert and Ginny Mayer (Bosshart). He graduated from Black Hawk High School in 1976. He began working at Kelly Springfield Tire Company (later Titan Tire) in Freeport, IL at the age of 17. A dedicated worker, he stayed until he retired 29 years later. During this time, he began working part-time for J.H. Barkau & Sons of Cedarville, IL. He remained a loyal employee until the day of his death, 37 years later.
His love of cars consumed his work and personal life; from demolition derbys and NASCAR to his own collection of classic cars. He bonded with his son over tools, engines, and a good looking yard. If John wasn’t in a car, he was on a lawn mower, taking great pride in his landscaping. He became a Grandpa in 2013, and revealed himself to be a devoted family man. He doted on his 4 grandchildren with love and patience and thoroughly enjoyed himself at every birthday party and family reunion.
His family is comforted knowing he left this world in the way he chose to live… without fuss or formality, surrounded by fresh cut grass, diesel fumes and his community.
